Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) Light Metro is a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system approved to be built in the SRC. The Thiruvananthapuram line is planned to start from Technocity and terminate at Karamana covering a distance of 22.537 km with 19 stations, along the old NH 47.
Trivandrum Metro’s Phase 1 project will be executed by Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Limited (KRTL), a special purpose vehicle of the government of Kerala.
In order to make Light Metro more effective and sustainable, a bypass line connecting three phases of Technopark is inevitable.
The State is yet to get the final approval for the proposed light metro project for the capital city from the MoHUA, even as the State government is moving ahead with land acquisition for constructing three flyovers at Sreekaryam, Ulloor and Pattom and preparing the DPR for extending the project till Technopark.
The State government is likely to merge Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Limited (KRTCL), the special purpose vehicle (SPV) with Kochi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (KMRL) following a suggestion by the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
