Solid Waste Management

Solid waste management in the city is planned to be handled through Centralised Waste to Energy projects and Decentralized Waste Management strategies of the Corporation. 

The following are the major initiative:

Waste-to-Energy Project of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC)

Kerala Solid Waste Management Project (KSWMP), World Bank

Waste Management by Trivandrum Corporation

Progress Made

Corporation projects for decentralized waste management progressing – Haritha Karma Sena was formed in 70 wards. 25 ePick up Autos procured for each of the 25 Health Circles for Organic waste converters are deployed at Chala, Fort, Sreekanteswaram, Palayam non-degradable waste collection centers at different locations in the city Smart Trivandrum mobile application has been launched.

Next Milestones

Identify Land for KSIDC Plant by Dec 2022

Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) suggests the following new proposals:

  1.  Plastic waste for road tarring
  2. Explore the feasibility of using plastic waste for tarring roads in the city.
  3. Waste bins across the city
  4. Deploy waste bins across the city, and ensure regular maintenance through Kudumbasree
