Trivandrum as much as it is a traditional and historical ground, is also home to various Industry parks. From Technopark to KINFRA infotainment park, it has numerous parks dedicated to various industries including IT, entertainment and garment production. These parks contribute majorly to the Kerala economy and has made it one of the top states in terms of production and services. Trivandrum is hence significant in all facets of Kerala’s growth, be it entertainment or IT.
One of the largest IT parks in India, Technopark located in Trivandrum was established in 1990. It currently has four phases, three in and around Kazhakootam and the fourth at Technocity, Pallipuram. Technopark is a government venture and is headed by a CEO appointed by the Govt of Kerala. It has over 10 million sq ft of built-up area and is home to over 400 large and small companies, employing more than 56,000 professionals.
Bio 360 at Kowdiar, Trivandrum is India’s first integrated Life Sciences Park. This KSIDC venture incorporates research institutions, sci-tech academia and companies, working in the field of Biotechnology. It also has an incubation and technology development centre. It is a major hub for R&D in Life Sciences. With rich bio resources and numerous academic and research institutions, Kerala has a large talent pool. Trivandrum being the state capital, can easily provide best sources for R&D.
KINFRA Film & Video Park
India’s first Infotainment Industrial Park, the KINFRA Film Video Park is located at Kazhakootam, between Technopark and Technocity. It is also the first SEZ for animation and gaming in India. The park is a cluster of various animation, film and other entertainment units including Muthukad’s Magic Planet, Vismayas Max Studio, Accel Animation Studios’ motion capture facility and DCSMAT School of Media and Business. Ernst & Young Global Shared Services (GSS) also has their third centre in Kerala here.
KINFRA International Apparel Parks Ltd
KIAP located at Thumba hosts garment manufacturing and laundry services units, food processing, e-commerce, tools and machines manufacturing, solar power products, aerospace automotive parts and food processing among various other industries. It also houses institutions such as Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd. and Apparel Training and Design Centre. There are more than 3500 people working under various companies here. KIAP gives opportunities to women across the country to fetch employment and also provides hostel facilities for them.
Spread across 75 acres in the hilltop of Thiruvallam, the Chitranjali Studio was established by KSFDC in the 1980’s. This film production studio has the second largest indoor sound proof floor in Asia. The studio incorporates four outdoor film units, dubbing studio, film processing labs, preview theatres etc. Many yesteryear films starring the who’s who of Malayalam cinema were shot in this enormous studio. The studio still serves as a pre-production and post production unit for many films.
Veli Industrial Estate
The Veli Industrial Estate is spread over 108.6 acres in Kochuveli. The industrial estate was set up to boost small scale businesses in the city. After crossing many hurdles, Kochuveli has now become the most sought-after destination in Trivandrum for entrepreneurs. The companies operating here are from various industries including food production, paper products, interior and furniture production, rubber and chemicals and engineering works. With about 120 functional units, it provides livelihood to over 10,000 families.
