Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC)

VSSC is ISRO’s lead centre focusing on design and development of launch vehicle technology. The centre is responsible for research and development of various technologies including aeronautics, avionics, space physics, propulsion and system reliability. Named after Dr Vikram Sarabhai, VSSC is located at Thumba and also has an extension centre at Valiamala. VSSC is an indigenous facility which has major programmes including Rohini and Menaka launchers PSLV, GSLV, SLV, ASLV, and GSLV Mk III.

Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST)

SCTIMST is an institution that holds National importance and falls under Govt of India’s Department of Science and Technology. The institute with over three decades of legacy, has gained great acceptance across the country. SCTIMST holds the status of a university and also offers facilities in training and research. It has a super specialty hospital, a biomedical technology wing and also a Centre for Health Science Studies. The institute provides advanced treatment for cardiac and neurological disorders.

Institute of Advanced Virology

IAV was set up in 2019 in Trivandrum on the wake of the Nipah virus outbreak. It is located at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park, Thonnakkal. The institute focuses on research, diagnosis and management of infectious viral diseases. It also offers training in research covering basic science and translational research. It will soon be an institute with global standards. The institute is envisioned to have most modern laboratories and also bio-safety level measures to handle high-risk viruses.

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB)

RGCB is a nationally and internationally recognised institute located near Jagathy. The centre was established in 2002 and is an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology of the Govt. of India. It is known for discoveries and findings in medical and plant biotechnology. The research departments in RGCB include Cancer Research, Cardiovascular Disease & Diabetes Biology, Plant Biotechnology & Disease Biology and Neurobiology. It has two other campuses, one in KINFRA Park, Trivandrum and another in Kochi.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM)

IISER TVM is an institute in Trivandrum, dedicated to scientific research and science education. It was founded in 2008 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The campus located at Vithura with its rich greenery and mountain backdrop provides an ideal environment for research and learning. IISER TVM aims to provide high quality education in modern science. It offers five-year BS-MS programmes along with iPh.D and Ph.D. in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and inter-disciplinary areas.

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)

IIST located at Valiamala is a government-aided Deemed university dedicated to the study and research of space science. It is the first university in Asia that focuses on Outer space. IIST offers engineering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes on space science and technology and also has a research centre. It was founded in 2009 and situates in an eco-friendly, serene campus. The university has science, technology and humanities departments offering various courses including Aerospace Engineering and Avionics.
