Upgradation of Railway Terminals

Thiruvaanthapuram Central, Kochuveli and Nemom Railway Stations are being upgraded with a Rs 156 crore project ,which will improve Railway infrastructure in the Capital city considerably. Another fund of Rs 108 crores has been sanctioned for 15 railway stations in Thiruvananthapuram division under Amrit Bharat Scheme. At Kochuveli works have been awarded for the third phase consisting of two additional platforms, and modernisation of Signal and Telecommunication, at an estimated cost of Rs 39 crore. Foundation stone of Nemom Coach Terminal was laid in March 2019 and DPR for Phase 1 at an estimate of Rs 116.57-crore is awaiting the Railway Board for approval. The preliminary works costing Rs 15 crore have started. There is a public demand to rename these stations as Trivandrum North and South respectively.
